I have long had problems keeping my fingers and toes warm cycling in temps below about 20. Cycling lobster mitts from the big name cycling clothing manufacturer's work to a point but my fingers still got cold after an hour or so.I read recently that Empire Canvas in Duluth was doing a limited run of their legendary Icebike mittens. I jumped on the chance to own a pair. Their arrival coincided with a recent drop in temperature so I have had a chance to test them out.
They are extremely well made, have a long gaitor that covers the forearm, and a reflective stripe for visibility. I spent about 2 hours riding this morning and the wind chill drove the air temperature down to about -10 F. My fingers were not only warm but were actually sweating a bit.
If you have cold hands and want to ride in the bitter cold, get these mittens. Kevin at Empire is a really great guy to deal with and his products are very well made. Living in Duluth, he gets what its like to live and ride in cold temperatures.
Cheers

I need help with my feet. I've got the hands figured out.
thanks for the tip! i ordered mine right away and they arrived in two days. fantastic mitts. love the snot wipe zone on back of thumb and the comfy fit.
Me too! These are the first mitts i've owned that actually keep my hands warm on the bike. If you ride in the cold and can't use pogies (ie; no flat bars), these are the way to go. They're also really well-made and local, and a real bargain compared to high-end ski or snowboard gloves.
